I just got email from the choirmaster at my mom's church. There will be 22 choristers for my mom's service! It's a quite sizeable response - the full choir is around 40 people I think. (Admittedly, each participant is going to be getting paid for their singing, but they're doing quite a lot of music so that's fine.)

It's probably so _low_ because Harvard's out of session and people are traveling. Otherwise, I imagine the bulk of both choirs would be there, payment or no.

Well, yes, that's true. But given that it's post-choir season, I'm fairly impressed. (Also, I'm used to singing in a choir that gets up to 12 singers on a good day, so 22 seems positively luxurious.)
